Beautiful hike and pretty easy for kids. Wonderful spots for a picnic by the lake - Be sure to bring lots of water and take garbage with you!! Also a tip for families with the little ones: go to bathroom before you start as there are no flush toilets there. There's a compost toilet at the Trailhead and an open toilet (wood bucket in open air) near the lake.
