We had chartered previously with Anacortes Yacht Charters and the experience was outstanding. We went with SHYC this time because they had the vessel we wanted, an Ocean Alexander 480 Sport. Everything was good until we took a close look at the yacht. The stateroom carpets and bridge carpet needed professional cleaning. The salon carpet was badly frayed. There was black grime around the edges of the bridge carpet and it was badly stained, and the second captain's chair on the bridge was broken (I have pictures of everything). They changed out the dinghy at the last second and gave us a smaller dinghy with a 3.5 horse motor, which was barely enough to go anywhere - when it decided to run at all.
I showed and explained all of these issues to Mark (who owns SHYC - I checked the incorporation papers) when we got back. He actually invited it when he asked, "How can we make this better?" I was very polite, but honest. I don't think he liked my answers. He did not offer to make it right in any way. I then wrote him a friendly and detailed letter regarding the experience, and how they could improve for future customers for a simple reason: I want him to succeed. He never bothered to answer. We are now back at Anacortes Yacht Charters for next summer.
