I want to thank Shifa Health and, in particular, Nancy Turner for her outstanding service to me as a client. She does my medication assessment, and through her incredible insight into my emotional situation, she has brought me out of one of the darkest times of my life to a place of contentment, stability and basic happiness. That is a lot considering I have almost constant physical pain due to spinal surgeries, and that had previously brought me a place of darkness and high levels of depression and anxiety. I cannot sit long at the computer due to this, so I will close for now. In short, Nancy rocks! I don't know what I'd do with her and without Shifa. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there! With utmost gratitude, Carol
After suffering from diagnosed and treatment resistant depression for nearly a decade, I was referred to SHIFA. When I arrived in Jane Small's office, one of the very first things I am told is "you don't look depressed." She goes on to elaborate that "you look put together, you're wearing lipstick, you have your nails done....you don't look depressed." As a mental health professional, you should know better than to invalidate someone's illness simply based on looks. Depression is largely not a physically visible illness. These words were careless and said to the wrong person, could be very dangerous. Within the hour I was sat in her office, she told me unless I stopped drinking coffee, stopped doing multiple things I do in my daily life that I've always been open and honest about to doctors and have never had an issue with, that I "will never see improvement" and "don't expect to get better." Not only that, but after it was all said and done she actually diagnosed me as NOT having depression, as if I haven't been diagnosed with it multiple times throughout the last decade. All in all, the "care" I received was reckless and unprofessional. Unless you are willing and capable to help all different forms of a mental illness, do not go into the mental health field. I will not be returning nor recommending SHIFA.
