Reflecting the City of Burien's minimal investment in, or interest in, outdoor spaces for the general public, this park is essentially closed. There remains about a quarter mile of trail to the beginning of a chained and gated stairway that used to lead down to a public beach.
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, as the majority of wealthy town residents who pull the strings would like you to stay away from the open spaces that they ostensibly own, also including Lake Burien and Three Tree Point. While other nearby communities strive to make open spaces more accessible (Des Moines, even Tukwila with it's Green River corridor, come to mind), Burien wants to become more like a gated community. Stay away-you are not wanted, is what this should suggest to you, person who doesn't own a home here. In light of this, why should you visit and spend your money in the "cute" little town center that town boosters so desperately want to see thrive?
