I have been dreaming about becoming a pilot since I was like 6. About 20 years ago I began learning to fly and after 40 hours I made the common dumb mistake to stop! To finish my pilot’s license I searched for a new flight school by reading reviews and gladly chose Aero Maintenance. The school is great! One thing that you feel from the moment you step in the door at Aero is the sense of community. The goal of the staff is to help people learn to fly or continue flying safely. They have a well-maintained fleet of airplanes. Don’t judge the girls (planes) by their looks, because they are all awesome. I have flown all of the 172’s and the 150. My favorites are 738FD and 545DS. Aero Maintenance is located at Pearson Field, the oldest operating airfield in the U.S. This is a great field to learn to fly from for several reasons. The traffic pattern at Pearson is not busy, so you can practice your maneuvers and land without wasting a ton of money waiting in the pattern to land, unlike other schools located within Class D airspace.
Also, you get to learn how to navigate into and around Class C airspace (Portland Int.), which is a valuable experience. It was funny talking to other pilots, while I was training, and hearing how nervous they were to fly into and around Class C airspace. Even though I was only a soloing student pilot, I had already gained experience about tower operations and airspace that made other more experienced pilots nervous. So yes, go learn to fly at Aero Maintenance. I would recommend meeting with a few of the instructors at Aero Maintenance to see which one suite’s your personality and learning style.
